| Keep your advert to a sensible size. We recommend dimensions of 400 x 600 pixels. | ||
| Address the advert to someone. Eg. Dear Head of Biology.... | ||
| Where possible, show the link between your product or service to either the educational benefits to the pupils or to the benefit to the school as a whole. | ||
|
Only include a picture if it is necessary - too many images and you can end up with an unreadable email or worse still you could get blocked altogether. | |
| Entice your possible customers with simple and honest offers. An offer of free shipping, an invitation, or a discount is very effective. Competitions can work great. | ||
| Emphasise the most important paragraphs with bullets so they grab the recipient's attention. Remember that people like to scan an advert first. | ||
| Include your contact information. You can include your web site address, your email address, even the postal address of your company. A telephone number is also useful as some recipients may prefer to call and speak with a live person. | ||
| Don't over complicate things. Keep things simple. Lots of graphics and complex tables are not good. | ||
| Don't make your advert too long. A short punchy advert is much more effective. | ||
| Don't try and use just images or one single image. A lot of email programs turn off images by default so the user has to click 'allow' to see your lovely pics. Also spammers try and get around filters by sending just a jpg image, so the filters look for a nice balance of text and images. | ||
| Don't use CSS styles, span or div tags. Yes they look pretty in Safari or Firefox, but they just get ignored or misinterpreted in email programs. Don't say we didn't warn you! | ||
